Automated Scientific Discovery and Hofstadter's Fluid Concepts Model
نویسندگان
چکیده
In this talk we present the Fluid Concepts cognitive model, developed by Douglas Hofstadter and his students over the last 30 years. Models in the Fluid Concepts tradition aim to provide a psychologically plausible description of perception and analogy-making, incorporating the parallel processing of bottom-up, data-driven percepts and topdown, expectation-driven hypotheses. We discuss these models' implications for scientific discovery.

this research explores the manipulation of biomedical big data and diseases detection using automated computing mechanisms. As efficient and cost effective way to discover disease and drug is important for a society so computer aided automated system is a must. This paper aims to understand the importance of computer aided automated system among the people. The analysis result from collected da...
متن کاملJoined-Up Reasoning for Automated Scientific Discovery: A Position Statement and Research Agenda
We use the phrase “joined-up” here with a double meaning: to convey two aspects of scientific discovery which we believe are essential, yet under-researched with respect to automating scientific discovery processes. Firstly, from an Artificial Intelligence perspective, the majority of approaches to using AI techniques involve a disjointed sequential application of different problem solving meth...

Abstract Over the last two decades, improvements in developing computational tools made significant contributions to the classification of biological specimens` images to their correspondence species. These days, identification of biological species is much easier for taxonomist and even non-taxonomists due to the development of automated computer techniques and systems. In this study, we d...
متن کاملA Data Mining approach for forecasting failure root causes: A case study in an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) manufacturing company
Based on the findings of Massachusetts Institute of Technology, organizations’ data double every five years. However, the rate of using data is 0.3. Nowadays, data mining tools have greatly facilitated the process of knowledge extraction from a welter of data. This paper presents a hybrid model using data gathered from an ATM manufacturing company. The steps of the research are based on CRISP-D...

Dave Chalmers, Daniel Defays, Bob French, Gary McGraw, and Melanie Mitchell). Although Hofstadter is not the first author of all the articles, there is a coherent vision to the whole book, reinforced by the prefaces Hofstadter wrote for each article. Two major ideas appear to underlie much of Hofstadter’s work; although these ideas are related, one is primarily a computational claim, and the ot...
